Head runner

How long have you been volunteering for the SCAA?

I started in 2012, so it's been three years.

What was the first SCAA event you volunteered for an what your duties?

The first SCAA event I volunteered for was the Big Central competition in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and I was the head runner there.

Describe your most memorable volunteering experience so far?

The most memorable volunteer experience would probably be the first at Big Central where I had all these expectations of volunteering and the competition and I was really excited.

How has volunteering influenced your coffee career?

I thought the competitive nature of the event would lead to people being so focused on beating everyone that nothing else mattered, but what I found was a real community. There was a group of people from all over the world that were really focused on building 'community' everywhere and coffee was a part of doing that. Through volunteering, I have met a lot of good people and made new friends. I want to pursue these friendships further and build a community for myself, not just in Chicago, but all over the country.
