Emma Sage – World Coffee Research Sensory Lexicon
All CoLab: Antwerp 'coffeetalks' - by speakers such as Charlotte Malaval, Emma Sage and Stephen Morrissey - were produced by our content partner Tamper Tantrum. We'll be releasing the videos of these talks over the next months so we keep fuelling discussion and building an inventory of knowledge. Don't hesitate to share your comments, thoughts or any additional reading links.
As SCAA and SCAE move into unification, BGE looks forward to further collaboration with key members of the SCAA team and we're honoured to have had Emma Sage as part of our CoLab: Antwerp event. Emma's presentations became a key feature of the CoLab: Antwerp program with her inclusion on the main day of Tamper Tantrum talks and a Coffee Lexicon and Coffee Tasters Flavor Wheel class on the final day. Her background in plant physiology, biology, ecology, oenology, and climate change science has given her a solid foundation to apply to coffee and her role as an interpreter between the coffee and science communities.
Introducing World Coffee Reseach and their relationship with SCAA, Emma highlights the unique work being undertaken by WCR where cutting edge models and leading experiments to prepare the coffee industry for the future are all part of an unprecedented global platform of research. A rule applied to much of the research being conducted by WCR is 'to improve something you have to be able to measure it' which is part of the motivation for the creation of the Sensory Lexicon which in turn becomes a catalyst for the new Coffee Tasters Flavor Wheel.
Emma's expertise and involvement with both projects result in an inspiring talk about the future of coffee development and research at WCR and SCAA.
