Talor Browne – Coffee, I love you but you're bringing me down
All CoLab: Antwerp 'coffeetalks' - by speakers such as Charlotte Malaval, Emma Sage and Stephen Morrissey - were produced by our content partner Tamper Tantrum. We'll be releasing the videos of these talks over the next months so we keep fuelling discussion and building an inventory of knowledge. Don't hesitate to share your comments, thoughts or any additional reading links.
Talor Browne speaks in public for the first time in her 14 year career in the industry to an audience gripped and engaged with every word she has to make on the subject of mental health in the workplace.
Beginning her career in the thriving coffee culture of Melbourne, Talor worked under Mark Dundon at St Ali, who set her up for life as an international barista. A stint at Coutume in Paris during the brink of the Paris coffee scene preceded a remarkable experience working in Norway.
Talor stands before the audience to bare all, her heart well and truly on her sleeve as she presents results collected from a survey she created inviting baristas to share their experiences in the workplace.
In return Talor tells her moving story in an attempt to break down the stigma surrounding mental health for cafe workers – standing up and being someone a struggling barista can relate to is important here, as is a focus on our collective responsibility to make a change and not be afraid to share our own stories or struggle with stress at work.
The overwhelming response to both Talor’s initial survey and subsequent presentation in Antwerp highlighted how important it is to have this conversation, Tamper Tantrum have helped to facilitate the continuation of the conversation online: share your thoughts, join the discussion, and view the survey results at COFFEE, I LOVE YOU BUT YOU’RE BRINGING ME DOWN.
