Nominations Now Open in the 2022 BG Leadership Council Election!
Dear Barista Guild members and community,
The BG Leadership Council is now accepting nominations for new leaders passionate about the barista community and experienced in (online) activity and event planning. This year, the BG Leadership Council has 3 open positions to serve a two-year term.
Nominations are open from September 19 - October 3 to the Barista community.
The 2021-2023 election timeline is as follows:
Nominations Open: September 19
Nominations Close: October 3
Slate Announced: November 1
Petition Period Opens: November 2
Petition Period Closes: November 16
Voting Opens: November 21
Voting Closes: December 5
Results Announced: December 9
What are the responsibilities of a member of the BG Leadership Council?
Promote SCA Strategic Objectives, Values, and BG Purpose and Guiding Principles.
Determine strategic objectives and activities following the BG mission and vision, which are following the SCA strategic plan.
Advocate for the Barista community and its members within SCA, and represent SCA to the barista community and its members.
Attend regular monthly meetings of the BGLC at a time specified by the Chair and the wider team.
Adhere to general meeting and event attendance requirements and protocols as detailed in BG Rules of Procedure.
Ideal BGLC candidates will:
Be very well connected to and within the barista community.
Ideally, already have experience in organizing (online) activities and events for baristas and/or local communities.
Be passionate about sharing knowledge and insights on barista topics and coffee in general.
Work as a barista or work closely with baristas as their main source of income.
Be a good communicator with a tendency towards diplomacy. We don’t always agree on the BGLC, and we need people who are able to discuss controversial topics with respect for various beliefs and cultural differences.
Project-based working style
The BGLC is working on a project-based style to realize and manage activities and events. This means ideally, each nominee already brings 2-3 ideas to the leadership council which they’d like to realize and get started on.
You’ll be expected to lead on your project ideas, manage them with common project management tools, and by gaining support within the BGLC realize your ideas with a wider group, which can also consist of baristas who are looking for volunteering opportunities within the BG.
How does the BG Election Process work?
All nominations will be reviewed by the BG Election Committee, chaired by the Immediate Past Chair Kathie Hilberg (that's me), and comprised of two current BG Leadership Council members and two BG members-at-large.
Each nominee will be vetted by the Election Committee and a slate of nominees will be selected from the nominee pool and will be announced on November 1. Email ballots will be sent to all BG members on November 21 and the new Leadership Council members will be announced on December 9.
Am I eligible to vote in the 2022 BG election?
This election is your opportunity to make your voice heard by voting for the volunteer committee leading the BG globally. Only BG members with a valid SCA membership are eligible to vote. Both individual members and Company Individual Members (individuals whose membership is connected to their company membership) may participate in this election.
Not sure if you're eligible to vote? Check your membership status in the SCA Member Portal here or contact our Member Services Team by filling out this form.
