Rob Berghmans – Integrating the EK43 into Caffènation
All CoLab: Antwerp 'coffeetalks' - by speakers such as Charlotte Malaval, Emma Sage and Stephen Morrissey - were produced by our content partner Tamper Tantrum. We'll be releasing the videos of these talks over the next months so we keep fuelling discussion and building an inventory of knowledge. Don't hesitate to share your comments, thoughts or any additional reading links.
The second in our series of talks from CoLab: Antwerp comes from local Belgian cafe and roastery owner Rob Berghmans. Rob founded Caffènation way back in 2003 when specialty coffee was just a twinkle in the eye of the European market – it didn't take long for Rob to start adapting his practices and before long he was fine-tuning his skills in national barista championships. Caffènation has become the original Antwerp cafe; and Rob has continued to develop his business with a roastery launch in 2010, due for a relocation early 2017, and with a branch in Amsterdam.
Rob's talk continues in this vein of progression as he presents the trials and tribulations of introducing a Mahlkoenig EK43 grinder into the workflow at Caffènation. Confirming what you may have experienced yourself or offering an insight into life with an EK43 – this talk is for anyone who has the same drive to remodel and experiment with new practices and equipment on their bar.
