CoLab: Barcelona – Program Announced

Come to CoLab: Barcelona, where coffee professionals will gather to share and exchange experiences and opinions for the 4th edition in this seminar series. Barista Guild of Europe is proud to introduce you to the new format, including talks, panels & hands-on workshops by 3 speakers, a visit to a chocolate factory and a range of fringe events putting the local coffee scene at the heart of the event. With a translator on hand, the event will be inclusive to both the local and international community.

The Program

The First Sip – CoLab: Barcelona will begin in the afternoon on Monday 28 November with a visit to the Blanxart Chocolate Factory, home to craft chocolate makers and the location for a tour and presentation on the delights of cocoa and chocolate production. We'll get together for an evening of chats and socialising at Nømad Roastery.

The Body – BGE is happy to announce a new format for the main day (29 Nov) of CoLab: Barcelona which will take place at Cooccio, newly opened shared kitchens, work space and home to Atmans coffee. Stephen Morrissey, Sr. Director of Marketing at SCAA, will host a morning of coffee talks with three strong themes as the backbone to the presentations – Sustainability, Science and Service – before an afternoon of engaging workshops and the opportunity to investigate the morning talks in depth. This is your chance to get hands-on and engage with the event speakers as part of the new CoLab format.

The three CoLab: Barcelona speakers and their talk titles are:

Ger O’Donohue | First Draft Coffee , Dublin | 2016, What The Worse Year Taught Me About       Service

Kim Elena Ionescu | Director of Sustainability, SCAA | Sustainability Asks First and Solves Second

Francis Percival | Food Editor, World of Fine Wine | Aged, Creamy, and Stinky: What Cheese Can Teach Is About the Power of Language

Each speaker will lead an afternoon workshop developing on the topic of their morning presentation. We have realised that language differences sometimes hold people back from gaining the most out of our events so we’re excited that we’re able to offer translation services for the first time at a BGE event, indicative of our goal to create an inclusive and engaged community

At the end of the main day, local baristas and cafe owners Jordi Mestre (Nomad), Elisabet Sereno (True Artisan Cafe), Miguel Lamora (Atman’s Coffee), and Salvador Sans (Cafés El Magnífico) will discuss ‘What’s Unique About Coffee In Spain?’ in an engaging panel, moderated by Stephen Morrissey.

The Aftertaste - In addition to the main day's activities, the program will provide activities for CoLab'ers to investigate the local coffee scene through tours, roastery visits and cuppings! Confirmed fringe events are a Brew Methods Tasting at SlowMov and a Cup Tasting Experience at IECAFE.

The coffee scene in Barcelona (Spain) is booming – with a handful of specialty roasters within Barcelona and a lengthy list of alternative and quirky cafes – we're excited to bring the international coffee community to this centre of culture and beautiful aesthetics.

Tickets for CoLab: Barcelona are available here – ticket includes access to all of the programmed events, lunch and refreshments at Cooccio on the main day.
